( : Seeing is Believing : )

When we awoke, everything was covered with a blanket of snow. There were several inches, so we piled on the layers, then piled out the front door to go sledding.

One of the hardest things to do is to take pictures with snow gloves on. : )

Preparing to head down the road.

Business 74/King St.
This is the main thoroughfare through town

And off we go!!!

Did he get tired?

Smile!

Always wanting to get a little more adventurous....

Okay, Ray.....maybe that's going a little bit too far.

Is it cold???

This sledding session has come to an end. : ( It was so bitter cold outside that two didn't last even 15 minutes! The remaining four toughed it out until lunch time.

The playground across from our house

Our house

Toward dusk, the brave four trudged down to the sledding hill once again.

Allison's one and only time down the hill

It has snowed all but a few hours today. As night was coming on, the temperature began to drop rather rapidly. Seeing as how it was already below freezing during daylight hours...... Brrrrrrr!!! It is supposed to get down to 15 degrees tonight.

*It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Winter*

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise."

Psalm 51:7,10,12,15-17

Despite the ambitious weather forecasts, when it stayed in the 70's throughout the day yesterday, snow was the farthest thing from our minds. Oh, sure.....4-6 inches of that feathery white stuff????? And which milk and bread companies paid you to say that? : ) Sooooooo.......I say all that to say this......

It's Snowing!!!!!!!

It is a beautiful 34 degrees, and the snow is laying. (Yes, Brent, it is snowing and not just sleeting this time. : ) ) It started at 3:05 and by an hour later it is looking like this.....

Don't let this innocent kitty fool you! Just 2 minutes prior to this picture, he was stuck up in a big tree in the back yard. : ) He was the last of the three muskateers to be rescued.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

One special couple celebrated their anniversary on the 23rd, but one special person celebrated his birthday the day after. : ) As the saying goes, "To be early is to be on time, and to be on time is late!" Oh, well......what is it when you're late?
Donald Ray Workman (Sr.) was born to George Washington and Mary Faye Workman on January 24th, 1953. His birth certificate said that she carried him for 40 months. Seeing as how even an elephant is carried for only 22 months we thought surely they meant weeks.......BUT it said months. Sara's frank observation was, "And you didn't turn out any bigger than that???" : )
He married Momma the day before his 18th birthday.

And now, 39 years, 7 children, and 2 sweet grandchildren later.....

We love you, Dad and Mom! May the Lord bless you with many, many more wonderful years together!

Thinking Again of the Start of 2010

Our New Year's celebrations were rather quiet ~ that is, we didn't have company as we sometimes do, and our activities were limited to sleeping and playing games as we waited for midnight to creep upon us.

And the first game is......

SORRY SLIDERS!!!

After a few games, the pawns were about slid out, so the contestants decided to go to a more invigorating game.

We're just feeling like a barrel of monkeys.......
JUMPING MONKEYS, that is! : )

Up we go into the wild blue yonder.......

'Bout to go bananas!

The host of catapults

And there just cannot be a New Year's celebration without a game of Monopoly. But this year it wasn't just any game of Monopoly......it was Monopoly Deal. Fast paced and fun ~ thank you, Ma Maw! We've had Monopoly games that lasted until 4 o'clock or so in the morning! Had it been the traditional board game, there would have been one less player in the real estate market.....such as the person in the next picture! : )

(Not that she was any more successful......)

The winner of every round

A pure Monopoly fan

He's concentrating so hard, his hair is falling out!

Sisters......and, yes, still friends! : )

Just can't celebrate without a friendly feline on your lap!

Hmmmmmm.......I wonder what you're thinking......

Ray had readied his artillery for the stroke of midnight. As soon as the clock struck 12, Ray, Sara, and Allison let out a volley of fire from our back yard. It was so loud and so long that the rest of us thought there would surely be a nosy neigh......ahem!......concerned citizen calling in to report the beginning of World War III. But after a few moments, to our relief and great amusement, neighbor after neighbor rang in the new year with deafening peals.
Back to Monopoly Deal so that Christina could win a few more rounds, and then off to bed.

The next day came with great anticipation. We were to go to Ma Maw and Pa Paw's house for an informal get together. Finger food and games as well as packing away all the decorations from Christmas. In keeping with the traditional New Year's meal, there were black-eyed pea patties (fried like salmon patties), little pies made of greens, and ham biscuits. Creative, huh? : )

As the men folk sat around the family room enjoying one another's company, the lady folk sat around the kitchen table playing games.

Sisters

And, of course, Monopoly Deal : ) It's contagious!

Ma Maw had fun watching

Is that an "I'm trying to plan my next move" or a "Get the camera away" kind of face????

The Spectators

May you have a wonderful year full of God's richest blessings!
And if you don't know the Lord as your Savior ~ if you have never trusted Him as the ONLY payment for your sin ~ may this be the year you come to know the greatest Blessing of all!
