And The Rains Came A-Tumblin' Down!

Thursday:
The day got off to a good start. Ray Jr. finished shingling the first side while the rest worked on tearing off the shingles from the other side. Pastor was there helping as well as a man visiting from Oklahoma.

Boy! These guys can really do some damage!

Ha! Caught you sittin' down on the job! Poor Ray is really worn out. His feet are getting raw from constant sweat which means constant moisture on his feet. Caldesine powder and frequent sock changes are taking care of that.

As soon as they put the water in, they sweat it out the pores.

This is the finished side of the roof. Beautiful, isn't it?

Shade trees really make a nice place for a lunch break. A nice change from the blazing hot roof without the shock to the system that an air conditioner would bring. Ya think we could transplant 'em????

Mom bought Sara a special treat.....her own personal watermelon!

Looks like we're watching fireworks.....or maybe a little league softball game.....

but, no, it's just those crazy guys up on the roof. : )

The Mayes have been so gracious to fix supper for us several times this past week. Delicious meals fit for a king. : ) We have thoroughly enjoyed the food and the fellowship.

Friday:
Today started out in a rush trying to beat the storm that threatened to descend upon the small town of Deale. Not far from here, they had gotten 3 inches, so we expected a downpour. The Lord graciously held off the rain for awhile longer.

Sara decided her little watermelon was just the thing for a hot, muggy day like this.

It's a really neat thing to watch their system. It all works like well oiled machinery. Each has their job to do, and each is just as important as the other.

The "go furs" were headed to Home Depot to get some 3-inch roof nails, but when we saw these clouds, we decided to head back. By the time we got back to the church, the storm had hit full force.

The water was coming out of the downspout so fast you would have thought we had opened up a flood gate.

The roofers had scrambled down off the roof, and most of them had taken shelter in the pastor's vehicle. All hope of finishing the roof today had vanished.


We were just about ready to pull out and head "home" when we noticed the wind had blown the tent poles out.

They were quickly put back in place. As the saying goes, "Many hands make light work."

Soaking wet, they survey the rest of the property from a sheltered perspective.

Uh-oh! You left your stuff out in the rain!

Well, the rain did provide a nice little reprieve of which we took advantage. : ) After we all got into some dry clothes, everyone jumped in the van and headed to a little antique store down the road. Although it was a bit pricey, we enjoyed looking at the different things they had there. Doesn't cost to look. : )

When we got "home", we scurried around real quick to get ready for our company that was to come for dinner.

Pastor and Mrs. Mayes, Pastor and Mrs. Sutton........and Mrs. Brown even came all the way up her steps to join us! : )

We had such a WONDERFUL evening of fellowship! It's so much fun getting together with brothers and sisters in Christ!

So much so that Christina and Keisha decided to trade tables. : )

After a long day, it's time to just relax, put your feet up, and.........talk a while longer, of course! : )

This Roof Is Hot! Hot! Hot!

The shingles did come this morning, but the first load they sent out was the wrong color. Soooooooo......there was a 4 hour wait for the shingles to come from a different store (same supplier). Oh, well. The down time was used to tear off some on the other side.

This is what the church looked like at church time this evening. As the second load of Workmans arrived tonight, what do you think our eyes beheld? Sure enough, Ray was standing there in his dress clothes like a good foreman watching some of the guys from the church carry shingles up to the roof. They looked like they needed a good workout anyway. : )
Hopefully, they'll be able to get a lot accomplished tomorrow. They're calling for bad weather especially Friday and Saturday, but we know Who controls all of that. We'll see.......

It's A Deale! ...in Maryland

This past Sunday, we had a wonderful time fellowshipping with the sweet people of Cornerstone Baptist Church. We were with them the whole day presenting the ministry the Lord has called us to as well as playing our instruments and singing. Daddy preached Sunday night about CPR for America......Missions. A very challenging message.

Yesterday we made our way up to Deale, MD to roof the church building for First Baptist Church. They did a little running around trying to get everything rounded up ready to start bright and early this morning.

And start they did.

By lunch time, they had half the one side of the roof shucked off.

They even got Pastor Mayes up there in his dress clothes....Sunday shoes and all!

They're certainly making progress. By the time they came "home" tonight, they had shucked that whole side of the roof and tar papered it. The shingles are supposed to arrive tomorrow, so until then.........
